by Nimisha Jaiswal Konark, Bhubaneswar, and Puri together form the  Swarna Tribhuja  ( Golden Triangle ) of Odisha tourism. Konark holds an important place in the golden triangle. It is a medium town in Odisha which lies on the eastern coast by the Bay of Bengal, about 60 kms from Bhubaneswar city.  This place is famous for its magnificent and architectural brilliant  Sun Temple  built in the 13th century. It derives the name Konark from two Sanskrit words Kona (corner or angle) and Arka (the Sun). It is the masterpiece of Kalinga architecture in Odisha and is also known as Black Pagoda as it is built in black granite and red sandstone (khandolite). The ancient sailors used this temple for their navigation. The Sun temple was built by the popular king Narasimhadeva I from the Ganga dynasty. This temple is a World Heritage Site, chosen by UNESCO.
