The reserve covers 2,300 square kilometers and includes forest ranges from the Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary as well as adjacent buffer zones, forming a critical corridor in the Satpura-Maikal landscape.

Named after the legendary Gond queen Rani Durgavati, this reserve combines biodiversity and historical significance. It has undisturbed plateaus, grasslands, wetlands, and dry deciduous forests, which are home to leopards, wolves, jackals, wild boars, and a slowly growing tiger population.
