Konark holds an important place in the golden triangle. It is a medium town in Odisha which lies on the eastern coast by the Bay of Bengal, about 60 kms from Bhubaneswar city. This place is famous for its magnificent and architectural brilliant Sun Temple built in the 13th century. It derives the name Konark from two Sanskrit words Kona (corner or angle) and Arka (the Sun). It is the masterpiece of Kalinga architecture in Odisha and is also known as Black Pagoda as it is built in black granite and red sandstone (khandolite).
