Navegaon National Park is located in Navegaon area of Maharashtra, at a distance of approximately 150 km from city. It is one of the most popular Forest Reserves of the Vidharbh region of the state and was established in 18th century. Sprawled over an area of almost 135sq km, the wild park coprises of a deer park, an aviary, 3 landscaped garden and Dr.Salim Ali Birds Santuary. Flowing through the Navegaon Wildlife Park is the beautiful Navegaon lake that flows with crystal clear water. A series of cascading trails leads one to the lake, which stretches over an area of somewhere around 11sq km.There is also a watch tower inside the wild park,from where you can get awesome views of the entire region.

In case you a bird lover, it is better to come here during the period of October to June. During this time, Navegaon Lake is visited by huge flocks of migrating ducks, which seem to wake you up with their loud calls. Infact, the bird sanctuary at the national park is home to more than half of the bird species found in Maharashtra

Flora: Teak, Haldu, Jamun, Kawat, Mahua, Ain, Bhel and Bhor.

Fauna: Though Navegaon is better known as a bird sanctuary, a number of wild animals could also be sighted. Tigers, Panthers, Bisons, Sambars, Nilgais, Chitals, Wild boars, Sloth Bears, and Wild Dogs are main wild life species in this national park.

Geography :
Navegaon National Park is located in the Gondia District and is spread over an area of 134 km square. The neighbouring area is known as Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. The park exhibits a variety of terrains. The rocks are mainly made up of chlorite, slate, and phyllite in the Sakoli and Saucer Series. There is also a vast difference in the altitude range, starting from 30 meters and ending at about 700 meters  the peak of the park.

History :
1975 was the year when Navegaon National Park was declared as a national park. The literal meaning of the name comes from the Marathi language. Nave translates to 'new' and Gaon translates to a village. Summing these two words creates Navegaon. Due to the presence of a dam in the area, the park is also referred to as Navegaon Bandh amongst the local population. Here, Bandh translates to a dam.

Timing:Entry between 7 pm and 4 am hours is prohibited.

Adult foreign national (above 18 years) – INR 60
Adult international student (above five years) – INR 30
Free entry for kids below the age of 5.

Timings : 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Best time to visit: The best time to visit the national park is during April and May. 

HOW TO REACH:

By Air – The nearest airport is in Nagpur, located about 150 Km from the national park. You can easily get a taxi from the airport to the park.

By Rail – The nearest railway station is Deulgaon Station. It lies on the Chandrapur to Gondia line which is just 2 km away from the national park. You can take a rickshaw or taxi from there.

By Road – There are several private or government-owned transport service which you can opt for to travel to Navegaon National Park. The park is well connected by road to major cities and towns, Nagpur is one of them. Buses run at frequent intervals from Nagpur which will drop you at the National Park.


Accommodation

For accommodation, there is holiday home, rest house, log hut rest house and youth hostel facility. Interpretation centre, small museum and library facilities are available at park. Seven Watch cabins and five watch towers are located at park for wild life observation and photography.

If you wish to explore more, head over to the beautiful Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 60 km from Navegaon National Park, other attractions worth checking out are Itiadoh Dam, located about 20 km from Navegaon. Tibetan Camp, situated in Gothangaon  15 km from Navegaon, and Pratapgad, a magnificent fort located just 15 km away from Navegaon.
