Chikkaballapur Adiyogi Trip Guide

Ananya Bhaduri

Travelling to Adiyogi Chikkaballapur was on my bucket list since it was inaugurated in 2023. I kept hearing that it is always crowded. Finally, we planned to visit this famous Adiyogi statue along with the Lepakshi Temple in August 2024.

The word ‘Adiyogi’ refers to the first yogi. Here, the first yogi is lord Shiva, who gave us the knowledge of the science of yoga over 15000 years ago.

How to reach Chikkaballapur Adiyogi from Bangalore?

There are several routes available from Bangalore. We were travelling from Koramangala, and our driver chose the Hebbal-Airport route. This route will take around 60-65 km to Adiyogi, Chikkaballapur.

Also, if you’re travelling from Marathahalli, Whitefield or Sarjapur, the Hoskote-Sulibele route will be perfect for you. The distance will be around 70 km, but traffic will be less.

Travel Option to Adiyogi

If you love driving, then you can drive to the Adiyogi statue or hire a private car, which costs around ₹2500-3000. We rented a car that cost ₹5500 for both Lepakshi and Adiyogi.

If you want to explore public transport, you can take a bus from the Majestic Bus Station platform 1A. You will get many buses to the Isha Foundation from the Majestic.

My Experience at Adiyogi Chikkaballapur

We reached the foothills around 4-4:30 PM. The roads were put in place, but in some places it was uneven and difficult to drive. However, the views were mesmerising, and our driver helped us catch a glimpse of the 112-foot Adiyogi statue from a distance; it was pure bliss for us.

After reaching our destination, we entered the Naga Mantapa barefoot. It was Saturday, and therefore, a huge crowd was there; still, it felt peaceful.

Adiyogi Statue

As I made my way up the stairs beside the Naga Mantapa, a sudden tranquillity and happiness settled over my face. At the top, the view was breathtaking, a 112-foot statue rising out of what felt like the middle of nowhere.

With the statue of Nandi Maharaj in front, the statue of Adiyogi is sitting on an elevated form and likely touching the sky. Hills protect the monument like silent guardians, while a cloudy sky and cool breeze brushed against my face. At that moment, I was sure I was not visiting the place; I was arriving for an experience meant for me.

Sunset & The Divya Darshanam

As the sun began to dip, the whole place was bathed in the golden glow, and the sun positioned itself just behind the statue, which created an orangish aura around Adiyogi. Sunset was another attraction of the place, with the orangish hue drowning everything and adding a mystical vibe to the place. We didn’t realise how time flew by. Suddenly, I felt a few drops of rain on my face and saw that the sky was completely covered with dense clouds. Witnessing the black Adiyogi statue under the dark clouds was just a surreal experience.

As evening went down and light faded, an announcement was made for everyone to gather for the light and sound show. Dark clouds started to appear, and as the lights were turned off, it felt like we were in another world. The chant of ‘Yoga Yoga Yogeshwaraya’ before the start of the laser show had set a deep spiritual tone, establishing a beautifully hypnotic atmosphere.

Then the light and sound show brought the statue to life with amazing storytelling in the background. As the story of Adiyogi was revealed on the statue through the magic of lights, I felt goosebumps all over my body. Those 15 minutes passed in the blink of an eye. Overwhelming emotions of surrender, love, gratitude and connection started rolling inside of me. I thought I had lost a long time ago! This laser show is referred to as Divya Darshanam, and it is absolutely true.

Important Points for Visitors

  • Adiyogi Sadhguru Sannidhi, Chikkaballapur, timing is 6 am-8 pm every day.

  • Divya Darshanam, or the laser show, is at 7 pm every day.

  • The entry is free.

  • There is no specific dress code. But I would recommend wearing proper clothing as it is more of a spiritual spot than a tourist attraction.

  • Avoid weekends or holidays because the place is too crowded and there are difficulties in finding parking.

  • If you are from Bangalore, aim to reach by 5-5:30 PM to enjoy the sunset.

  • Once the laser show starts, please settle down without blocking the views of others; there is plenty of space, so you can sit anywhere you want to.

  • Pure vegetarian eateries are available where you can relish yummy foods like Uthappam, chaat, and coffee at a reasonable price.

  • Staying accommodation is not available in Adiyogi Chikkaballapur.
